Man I need to keep updating!!! Geez...

Anyway, I'll try to keep this current but it's rather difficult. I'll post more regularly as gigs come up, but for now I am no longer the resident at Pasha since they are tryin a new format, and I've picked up gigs at Guarapo on Wednesdays and Ibiza occasionally...Nothing steady, but whatever!

gigs from the past 2 months

Man, I'm so behind on this blog...I think that I am going to make an effort and actively post on here...I have a lot of music to post and shit to rant about. Let's see, in the past 2 months I have DJed at RnR, Love 4th floor, Ultrabar bedroom, Chroma, and Play; and that is not including OB on Thursdays. To keep things short, RnR was fun, Love was OK, Ultrabar bedroom was off the hook, Chroma was mediocre (packed but didn't have a good time), and play was the most fun I've had DJing in YEARS.

I've been pretty busy, but I've been doing my best to take it easy to balance my day job, the gym cuz im fat, and practice on the decks at home. I've been very good at hitting the decks at home a couple of hours a day everyday, and it's really been givin me crazy ideas and sharpened up my skills considerably. My learning curve sharpened considerably and it's very exciting times. I even intend on having a mix released by June. Those of you who haven't heard me in a month or two are in for quite a nice surprise to say the least. Some of my remixes and mashes (yes, still mashes!) will be posted on here as well.

In the next few weeks, I have to DJ at Eyebar on 5/12, working on a surprise gig for 5/19, and I'm going to Vegas on 5/23 - 5/26, at which point I come back from Vegas Saturday night and DJ at Avenue on Sunday night 5/27 for a Memorial Day party. All this on top of OB, naturally. Flyers will be up shortly, along with the June gig lineup. I will also have pix of those past gigs up as well when I find out where the photographer posted it.

My gogo dancer at Play on 5/5/07

Enjoy!

what a weekend!!

daaamn...this past weekend was nuts. i dropped sets at two parties, friday at h2o for the final moonlight party/monthly Orgi asian event and saturday i spun in richmond for the vcu chapter of akdphi. let me say, both parties were SICK!!! here are a few details/highlights.

h2o started out fairly slow, but when midnight came around people just poured in and the place was packed!! granted, the patio was closed which i'm sure made a difference in keeping people in my room (sorry rich ang, i wish you were spinnin out there...we could always use house!!) but all in all it was straight, we went past the closing time which is always a good sign. unfortunately, i didn't get to go very eclectic into my sets because the crowd was dominantly mainstream and top40, so i kept it current. it was a great event to end the run of moonlight parties, and of course as an Orgi party it definitely kept the momentum of past parties....I can't wait for the next one!

saturday i travelled down to richmond to dj at kobe for the newly developed vcu chapter of kdphi. they did a great job promoting this event because by midnight, the line was around the block and the crowd was mixed - great job girls. it was nice to see the vcu heads down there, and i saw so many new heads ready to party, i can tell this is already going to be a great year for richmond/vcu's nightlife.

this coming weekend, i finally have a friday off...i think i am going to check out modern since i haven't been there since renovations. saturday, i am spinning the closing party for the APA film festival in washington DC, which is being held at panache. they're kind of strict there about using outsider DJs, but the promoter worked things out so that i can split airtime with the resident, but i think i'm going to end up playing more because he's spinning there thursday, friday, and sunday on that week so he wants to take it easy...he just has to be there as a sound tech. i hope to see everyone there, it's going to be great...free shots of hennessey and beer while supplies last, and its gona be sick! will post more flyers and information later this week.

Chloe 7/27 and H2O 7/28

What's up everyone, today is Monday and that means back on the grind after a great weekend. My weekend started on Thursday, when I played a set at Chloe. It was my first time there ever, in fact it was maybe my third time in Adams Morgan ever in about 3 years so it's been a while. I must say it certainly has changed, especially in the type of crowd that now attens, it's very different. Anyway back the Chloe, the spot is nice and has a fantastic DJ booth setup. It is most likely one of the better booths I've ever used, and while some of the ergonomic designs were a bit intrusive, it was cool for the most part. I seem to have DJed a lot of gigs which provide Rane Empaths lately, and since it is one of the mixers I own, I feel right at home. As for the party itself, it left a lot to be desired but it was still fun nonetheless. The crowd was scarce, split between walk-ins and some of my friends (thanks for coming out on a Thursday btw), but everyone had a good time. I'm going to spin there again on Thursday, August 10th I think, so I will keep yall posted.

Friday was the 4th session of Moonlight at H2O, and it was quite interesting. One of the promoting teams left for internal reasons so we lost a lot of pushing power, but the crowd turned out ok. However, it was a totally different crowd I did not expect, and while it was a surprise I managed to hold it down naturally. In fact the general manager at H2O was rather impressed with my set as he clearly expressed it at the end of the night. Overall, the crowd was decent - a little slow again but good times. The night ended smoothly with a one hour banter between H2O's sound guy and my friend and I, and it was a pretty cool way to wind down.

This week, I'm back at OB on Thursday and H2O on Friday. I hope that more people will come to H2O this week to check it out and make full use of the open bar and free food.

moonlight @ h2o july 14 2006

man, this nite was hot!! i think jus as good if not better than the opening nite. the crowd was a lot more diverse tho, and i really appreciated that. they had 3 girls from laguna beach there, and they were wasted off their asses...arent they barely 19 if that?!? haha hilarious! one grl was like makin out wit some random dude i thought dat was rather funny. dj twinspin was on vacation, so we had djs rich ang and jae k fillin in with house outside, and they kept the patio bumpin. my room was quite packed, i played a bit more dirty south than i normally would but the crowd was responsive so why not. i did forget to play hips dont lie (AGAIN) and i didnt play its goin down...not because i was scared of that grl from the week before (see previous post) but because...well i just forgot. if u wanna hear a track, come by and request it and ill be happy to drop it fer u!!...speakin of which, this leads me to my next rant...

i was pretty happy with the nite except for this one girl who came in the booth 3 times...asking to hear two songs i havent played in 3 years - jlo's jenny on the block and punjabi MC. the first two times i told her id have to look for them cuz theyre old, but i would play em if i had em. she was like no no, play it next! i was like i cant..first off i got a song already cued up and second i have to find em!! after the second time, i realized i didnt have em so wen she came back the 3rd time i told her sorry i didnt have em, next time tho ill hook her up...then she KIRKED OUT on me!! she was like MAN THATS BULLSHIT!! THAT IS SUCH BULLSHIT!!!...i was like grl, it aint dat serious...u requested two mediocre songs that are old as hell and get mad at me fer not carryin em? i gotta rotate music on a weekly basis, and im still a heavy vinyl user so cmon, i cant think of it all...but she kept goin DASS BULLSHIT DASS BULLSHIT and i swore she was gonna throw her drink at me...then she went on sayin MY BOY IS A DJ HERE DASS BULLSHIT...at which point i was like...well if ur boy's a dj here, tell him to bring me the 2 songs and ill play them fer u, at which point she left cursin me under her breath. needless to say, this small altercation required a shot and a drink ASAP. in her defense tho, it is my own fault that i didn't carry punjabi mc, that song still gets the crowd going...but i havent carried jenny on the block...well, ever. im sorry, im damn nice and very polite and i treat everyone with the utmost respect when they come into my booth, after all my job is to please the crowd, but dont flip a shit jus cuz i cant cater to the ONE thing you ask, ESPECIALLY when it is an outdated request. why couldnt u ask fer promiscuous or bossy or somethin like everybody else

i mean geez, wat in the world makes it OK for people to come into the dj booth and ask fer irrational shit, and CUSS at me wen im not able to fill their personal need? i LOVE to fill people's requests. when they ask politely, and ask at the rite time for the rite songs, im more than happy to drop it rite away! but if ur a moron about it and extremely instrusive, u are not welcome in my booth. first off, u aint payin me...second, im club staff. u wouldnt cuss at a security guard or at a bartender, wat makes it ok to cuss at me? u wouldnt go and tell bartenders how to make their drinks or tell bouncers who to kick out, and tell them to DO IT NOW!!! in fact, scratch that...a person such as that girl WOULD cuss at staff jus cuz they think theyre god's gift. the sad thing is, im sorry to say that she didnt even look good. girl, dont take it out on me cuz u had a bad hair day.

but besides that, great nite...still lookin strong, so we expect this event to last through the summer. i need to see yall there, some people i thought would be regulars still have not shown up.

moonlight at h2o - friday july 7 2006

Man...Friday night was the grand opening of Moonlight at H2O, and let me tell you it was HOT!!! The night went flawlessly, no issues (sorry if parking was kind of bad though, it is a crowded area after all), and everybody was great. ClimaxDC/DCNites/dcNRG did a great job as a team and really brought down the house that night. As always, DJ Twinspin and I killed it in our respective rooms, but of course you guys should expect no less from us.

Everyone I know that came had a great time, and people who I haven't seen in a while even said that they will be back on a weekly basis. Music to my ears! People most definitely made use of the open bar and free food out in the patio which was a nice touch and should make up for any inconvenience while parking. Remember, pay $15 for parking and if you make it to the open bar and buffet, you make ur money back within 30 minutes haha but I can't guarantee you will be able to keep that food down after all those free drinks.

The H2O setup was awesome, the booth was nice and loud. They had Rane Empath as a mixer, and that is a great touch because that is one of the mixers that I own so I felt right at home. The only downfall is that I had to use Serato through the CDJs, which is OK but generally not my preference. And the booth was like a room with a little window to peek out at the dance floor, that sucks too but apparently people told me I did a good job anyway. I think I woulda done a lot better if I had personal contact with the crowd though, I love to vibe off packed houses.

Please come back next Friday, July 14 - The cast of Laguna Beach is going to be there and hosting the event so there will be quite a bit of debauchery I'd say. Anyway, I'm going to end this post here...But speaking of packed house, here is a preview of the pictures from the Moonlight grand opening, with more to follow on the DCNites website. See yall this Friday!

Orgi at Love - June 17th, 2006

let me just say wow. mark and i played a set on the second floor at love this past saturday, and it was sick! the place was packed like always, but even more so since it was dcnites' monthly orgi event. we were originally supposed to play on the third floor like last month, but they already booked promoters there so they cancelled their 2nd floor DJ and set us up there instead. the booth setup on that floor is quite nice, its spacious with a lot of shelves for records but the mixer left much to be desired (it was an allen and heath Xone:62, an EDM mixer so it didn't have sharp fader curves and things like that). there was a VIP table rite next to the booth which was reserved by mark, so everyone was chiln there and the liquor was mos definitely flowing. other than that, everything went rather smoothly except for the resident DJ showin up on his day off just "to chill and hangout, and takeover if i'm ever tired." in my many years of DJing i've never been so tired that i had to give up a set, in fact i get more and more energized as i get into my set, and he should kno that of any dj so that was a lil annoying for him to make that assumption. in addition, he took the liberty to get wasted and hangout in the booth and yell massive shit over the mic, which is totally not my style...so therefore i apologize to anybody who was annoyed by the over-MCing that took place that nite, it was beyond my control. i guess that the DJ felt the need to claim his territory even though he was not working. even though all this was intrusive and distracting, i still managed to play a decent set but not the way i wanted to. oh well, its all good there will be plenty of other times. speaking of which...

starting friday july 7 is a new event dcnites has lined up - moonlight at H2O. moonlight took place at vida last year and it was packed for pretty much all of that duration, and this year it has been moved to H2O to accomodate more people. There are two rooms and a patio available to us, with separate entry for our clientelle. mark will be playing 80s, old school, classics, and dance in one room; and i will be playing hiphop, r&b, reggae and all that in another. music will be piped to the patio also. this should be a great event based on moonlight's success last year; and since my favorite climaxdc team will be working along with dcnites, the crowd should be amazing. admission will be $15, but there is a guestlist available for free entry until midnight. 21 and up, flyer will be posted momentarily under the upcoming performances section. see you guys there!
